Leopardstown Park Hospital

Dublin, Co. Dublin

Leopardstown Park Hospital has a very unique history. Formerly owned by Gertrude Dunning, the manor was gifted in 1917 to the British Ministry of Pensions to care for soldiers disabled during the First World War. In the 1970s, the centre opened its doors to care for the wider Irish public and in 1979, ownership was transferred to the Irish Department of Health. Since the transfer of its ownership, the Board has worked to develop the facilities for the Irish public whilst also maintaining the traditional role of the hospital to care for ex-service personnel.

The hospital, which has 171 beds, has undergone many changes over the decades but has developed into a specialist hospital for the care of the elderly. Services include sub-acute rehabilitation, respite care, residential care, welfare home and day care services.

The hospital is currently undergoing refurbishment of certain wards and is planning a full hospital replacement, hoped to be completed by 2021.

Facilities and services include access to a library, computers, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hairdressing, social activities and transport services for those availing of the day care services.

The hospital is located in Foxrock, close to the M50 and is well served with transport links including a Luas stop adjacent to the grounds. There is also ample car parking available on the hospital grounds for visitors.
